Horse and Buggy Items

I have purchased a copy of the 1914 catalog from the Goshen, Indiana buggy works.  It has about 100 pages of all the items you need for your buggy or your new horseless carriage.  It is funny to see how much the early cars resembled buggys in their fixtures and furnishings.  There was a lot of overlap.

The book will be of interest to anyone who is restoring an old buggy or very early car and needs to learn about the materials and methods used to build and repair them.

I found a research tool which finds search terms used to search for horse and buggy subjects and how often they are used. One problem is there is major overlap with dune buggy searches.  Dune buggys are a lot more popular.  Horse and buggy search were as follows:

  1. Horse buggy 8,886
  2. Amish Buggy 3,264
  3. Horse drawn buggy 2,780
  4. Horse buggy for sale  783

I have also found some old (1928, 1930) hardware supply catalogs that sold a lot of horse and buggy equipment.  Especially interesting are their renderings of horses with all the eqipment is place, complete with labels.  I hope to soon have pictures of these harness arrangements available at my singletree website.

I also found a 1930's parts catalog that is divided into sections, part for auto parts and the balance for horse and buggy parts.  It mush have been hard for companies to make the change from the horse drawn era to the automobile age. Since I enjoy reading through these old hardware store catalogs I have collected a few more.  I will be publishing them on a variety of sites.  I am setting up Hardware Ads to serve as a hub.  From there you will be able to find all the old hardware your are interested in.
